The Story of BayaWeaves

Posted by Baya Weaves on

Jagriti Yatra is a 15-day train journey across India and the motto of this journey is to "Build India through Enterprise". Every year 500 Yatris get on the train and go across the nation meeting various role models in different fields like technology, agriculture, education etc.

Akash Naoghare, a successful Entrepreneur from Nagpur and Vishaka, a passionate Edupreneur from Pune, was a part of the Jagriti Yatra in 2 different years - 2014 and 2015 respectively. And that's the magic of Jagriti Yatra, that both of them met and connected through different people in the JY network.

In 2017, Akash already had a settled clothing business - Akdee, and Vishaka was busy running her institute - ALS when Vishaka started a fashion blog with three other friends. That's when both of them started talking about Indian Fashion and how the situation of the Handlooms of India was saddening. All those long chats lead them to understand, that they look at the scenario the same way and they share the same passion for change. The idea of starting a venture together was born then.

The realisation of how serious both of them were about it struck, when they were a part of Jagriti Yatra 2017 as a part of the Volunteer Organising Team or Engine Room Club, as it is named. More than 20 days of being working together gave both of them a far more clear understanding and in months to come they brain-stormed and planned the start-up. Choosing an apt name, was more difficult than the rest of the planning.

One fine day, after having thought a hundred names Akash heard the name Baya from a friend. Baya is the name of a tailorbird, that can be found in South-East Asian Sub-Continent. And bang on, this is the name. The name of a bird that's native to India and is known for it's tailoring skills, has to be apt.

And thus the brand - BayaWeaves was found with a lot of passion, compassion, empathy and love.
